Edwin Boone Obituary

Edwin Maurice “Peanut” “Uncle Ed” Boone, a lifelong resident of Hampton, Virginia, was born on December 14, 1954, to Delores Costella “Dolly” Boone. He was raised by his Mother & his Grandma Effi E. Boone with a strong Spiritual foundation where he was Baptized at a young age at Zion Baptist Church on County Street. From the very beginning, Edwin’s life was marked by perseverance, faith, and a deep love for people and purpose. He was raised in a close-knit family that shaped his values of responsibility, service, and strength—values he carried with him throughout his life. Edwin was on a quest to meet and have a relationship with his father, Jesse L. Blizzard, Jr., who he met and shared time with later in life. Edwin attended Robert R. Moton Elementary School, Jane H. Bryan Elementary School and Buckroe Jr. High School before graduating from Kecoughtan High School in 1973. He went on to attend Virginia State College (VSC), where he majored in Business Administration and graduated in 1977. During his time at VSC, Edwin was recognized for his academic excellence, earning Dean’s List honors, and for his poetry—a gift many came to know and love as a refl ection of his depth, insight, and spirituality. Edwin worked as an Accounting Technician for Kmart. He then decided to follow in his family’s footsteps and relocated to Anaheim, California in 1979-1994. While in CA Edwin worked diligently in various positions including computer data entry, security, and most notably, providing maintenance services at Anaheim Stadium for over a decade. It was during this time that his interest in politics, civic engagement, and global affairs truly took root—an interest that would defi ne much of his later life. In 1994, Edwin returned home to Hampton, Virginia, where he began working alongside his brother Bruce, “The CEO” at Sunshine Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning. By 1996, Edwin became the owner and operator of the business, a role he held with pride and dedication. He learned more about his trade and became a very dependable and dedicated subcontractor/ employee to his mentor George Knight, Manager of Commonwealth Environmental Services Inc. Alongside his work, Edwin became deeply involved in the Hampton community, especially in local government and city council affairs. His passion for politics and community change led him to run for Hampton City Council in 2014 and again in 2016. Though he never won, he gained many votes from his supporters; Edwin never stopped showing up for The People….. He remained vocal, informed, proud, and unwavering in his belief that community involvement mattered. Edwin’s resilience extended far beyond politics. After undergoing a major six bypass heart surgery in the early 2000s and living for years with only 15% heart function, he continued to fight, advocate, laugh, dance at his Club “The Comfort Zone, he lived his life to the fullest! That refusal to quit—mentally, emotionally, or spiritually—was one of his defi ning traits. Several years ago, his health declined and he had to shift his career where he discovered his love for photography. He began working alongside his mentor Dale “The Picture Man” Nixon Owner of Outstanding Memories, LLC learning the trade and being in the mix socially & politically among people from many walks of life. Edwin was a man of strong faith, wisdom, and insight. He believed deeply in God, truth, and understanding, and his poetry often refl ected his spiritual journey and search for meaning. He was also known for his kindness and loyalty. Edwin would do anything for the people he loved—even if he could be, at times, a lovable pain in the butt. His humor, honesty, and unfi ltered opinions were part of what made him UNFORGETTABLE!! Throughout his life, Edwin built lasting friendships with many who loved him dearly, including Dorothy and the Rainey family, Dale “The Picture Man”, and Terry Riddick; Edwin was a strong advocate and gave voice to those who could not speak for themselves…..He was a strong proponent for Black Voters Matter. Though Edwin never married or had children of his own, he found immense joy in his goddaughters—his “sweeties”— Emma and Zah, who brought light, laughter, joy and purpose to his life. Edwin had many friends, confi dants & associates who he treasured; he LOVED his family Dearly. He was very sensitive and would become very emotional, he wore his emotions on his sleeve. Edwin Maurice “Peanut” “Uncle Ed” Boone went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 19, 2026. He is survived by his siblings Calvin Boone of Tampa, Suzanne Gwathmey Turner of Richmond (Craig) and Mark Boone of Hampton along with a host of extended family members and dear friends. We are forever impacted by his voice, his faith, and his persistence. Edwin’s life was a testament to resilience, service, and love. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered
